The ingredients needed to make !!Pasties!!:
  1. Get 1 -Pasty Pastry-
  2. Make ready 1 cup hot water
  3. Prepare 1 cup butter flavored crisco OR lard
  4. Prepare 3 1/2 cup all purpose flour
  5. Prepare 1 -filling-
  6. Prepare 1 lb ground beef
  7. Get 1 small round steak, cut into 1/2 " cubes
  8. Prepare 1 large onion, minced, seperate
  9. Prepare 2 tsp garlic, minced, separate
  10. Take 4 -6 cups of potato,diced into 1/2 " cubes
  11. Make ready 1 rutabaga diced into 1/2" cubes
  12. Prepare 1 can beef consommé

Beef skirt is the cut traditionally used for Cornish pasties. This is the underside of the belly of the animal. It has no gristle and little fat, cooks in the same amount of time as the raw vegetables and its juice produces wonderful gravy. Use a firm waxy potato such as Maris Peer or Wilja.

Instructions to make !!Pasties!!:
  1. Mix your pastry ingredients together, using a cutting in technique. Refrigerate for at least four hours.
  2. Sauté rutabaga and potato with half the garlic and onion until it starts to get tender. Allow to slightly cool.
  3. Brown the round steak and ground beef in the other half of the onions and garlic until just cooked. ( do not overcook), drain excess fat.
  4. Mix the meat with the rutabaga mixture. Add the consommé broth. Season with salt and pepper.
  5. Roll out your pasty pastry into small dinner plate sized discs, about 1/4" thick.
  6. Place an amount of filling onto one side of disc (not too much, you don't want it oozing out), lightly brush edges and fold over filling. Pinch edges to seal.
  7. Place pasties on a lightly greased cookie sheet and bake in a 375°f oven for 30-40 minutes.
  8. if you'd like to serve with a gravy, make a roux of 3 tablespoons of flour and 3 tablespoons of butter. Slowly add another can of consommé broth, stirring constantly until desired thickness. Serve on top of pasties.
  9. Delicious!
