  1. Get thin slice top round steak
  2. Get pickle spears
  3. Prepare lean bacon
  4. Get salt
  5. Get ground black pepper
  6. Make ready brown gravy

But I don't know why I never felt the need to make it myself. I made my dad's chili, sure, and his BBQ but for some reason I never wanted to try my moms stuff. I'm hoping it is because subconsciously I will know she will always be here but I also know she uses a lot of recipes. She doesn't use a recipe for rouladen so I guess it is a good thing that.

Instructions to make Dad's Rouladen:
  1. Wrap bacon around pickle spears
  2. Wrap steak around bacon wrapped pickle spears and secure with toothpicks
  3. Cook on medium heat turning until cooked throughout
  4. Add gravy packets to pan and let meat, juices and gravy simmer on low for about 15 minutes
  5. Remove rolls from gravy and cut into about inch size rolls, add additional toothpicks if needed
  6. Serve with gravy and enjoy

Rouladen is a traditional German recipe which literally translates to 'roll ups'. I came to realize a number of years into my marriage into a German heritage family that most of my family holiday entertaining recipes were German.
